Person of The Year, 2016

timepersonoftheyear

Who had the greatest influence, for better or worse, on the events of the year?

It’s that time of the year where we reflect on all that has happened throughout 2016.   This lesson uses the Time magazine’s person of the year as a spark for Ss to consider what makes a person of the year and asks them to share their thoughts on whom they would choose.

“It’s hard to argue that anyone had more influence than Donald Trump over the events of this year.” Nancy Gibbs

  4. Give the students a link to the template (below), and using Picsart, students create their front cover with their chosen ‘person of the year’

  6. When the Ss completed their posters, I asked them to add it to the class Padlet.
  7. Finally, students present their poster & reasons/opinions with other groups or to the whole class.

Write the names of all the people each group chooses and the class votes for the winner (they can’t choose their own person).

Homework / Follow on task ideas:

  1. Ss choose someone in their life who they believe deserves the title ‘Person of The Year.’  They post on instgram and write their reasons why. (remember to ask them to add your #ClassTag and your @username)
  2. Alternatively – Ss share their cultural highlights of the year: top 5 music, films, games, tv etc.
